Why is your espresso blend called 1549?
1549 was the year of Kett’s Rebellion in Norfolk. Kett’s Rebellion was a peasant rebellion against landowners who we trying to seize more and more land making it increasingly difficult for peasants to eke out even the most paltry living. We decided such an historic Norfolk event deserved to be commemorated on our espresso blend.
Why do your coffees always change?
Coffee is a seasonal product. We buys small lots from many small farmers and producers all over the coffee growing world. Some of these may be as small as one or two acres. When one coffee is sold out we move on to the next coffee we have bought.
When was your coffee roasted?
We roast Monday to Saturday each week so the coffee you receive will usually have been roasted a few days before being sent out to you.
How long does the coffee keep for?
This can depend upon how you store your coffee (see below). However, we recommend drinking your coffee within three weeks although it will probably be fine for eight to twelve weeks.
How should I store my coffee?
Our bags are biodegradable pouches so we recommend keeping the coffee in the bag and then placing the bag in an airtight container. Keep the container in a dark, cool cupboard if possible.
Are your coffee bags recyclable?
Our current bags are made of true biodegradable material. We are always looking at how we can be more environmentally friendly so we may change the bags in the future as the choice of eco bags evolve.

Sourcing

How do you buy your coffee?
We source our beans from small farmers and producers all over the world. When we taste a coffee we like, we buy it…providing we know exactly where it comes from, who grows it, who picks it and who processes it. This way we know who is receiving our money for those beans.
Is your coffee organic?
Some of our coffee is organic and this will be shown on the label and in the online information about the coffee.
Many of the small farmers and producers we work with cannot afford to buy official organic certification. However, they often produce their coffee on an organic basis due to them not being able to afford chemicals and fertilisers. They will farm in way passed down to them by their parents and grandparents.
