Our 1549 Blend currently consists of 50% Rio Verde (Brazil), 25% ‘Don Alfonso’ Caturra Peaberry (Costa Rica) & 25% Santa Barbara Estates (Colombia).1549 is the house espresso blend at The Black Apollo, in Holt, north Norfolk.
The flavour notes we get in the cup are milk chocolate, toffee, strawberry and raisin to give a sweet and creamy coffee.
Beans from Rio Verde farm in Brazil constitute 50% of this blend and give the distinct chocolatey notes.
This is the second successive year we have had beans from the famous Aquiares Estate in Costa Rica. This special microlot is named ‘Don Alfonso’ after Don Alfonso Robelo, patriarch of one of the owning families of the estate who took over farm management in 1992. These caturra peaberry beans give raisin and fudge notes.
The Santa Barbara beans in the blend are Colombia varietal. These add strawberry and orange notes to the blend.
1549 Blend is delicious as an espresso, long black or flat white and equally as good with a more milky drink such as a cappuccino or latte.
