Holkham Christmas Food Fair 2017
Norfolk Coffee Company at Holkham Hall Festive Food Fair
The weekend of 16th and 17th December 2017 saw us attend the first ever Holkham Christmas Food Fair.
The event was held in the magnificent Lady Elizabeth wing of the hall. Many of the best local and regional food producers and stalls, both inside and outside the venue. Luckily we had a stall inside as the weather was bitterly cold on the Saturday and rather wet on the Sunday. Despite the inclement weather more than 4,000 people enjoyed the produce and entertainment on offer.
Charlie Hodson did a fantastic job organising cookery demonstrations by some of the best chefs in Norfolk, including Roger Hickman and Eric Snaith. The seats for every demonstration were full. This was testimony to Charlie’s entertaining banter with each chef as much as the cookery itself. It certainly kept us stall holders entertained.
It was a chance for us, as a small artisan coffee roaster, to meet other small producers. The great thing about these events is that it gives artisan producers a chance to talk about their experiences and exchange lots of information, as well as a great platform to show off the wares to the public. The networking aspect is invaluable.
Over the weekend more than 4,000 people came through the gates, creating a very festive atmosphere. By 4pm Sunday evening we had sold over 100 bags of coffee. We are already looking forward to next year’s event.
Our best selling coffee over the weekend was the Holkham Bay espresso blend and the delicious Miravalle from El Salvador. We were surprised by the number of people wanting whole beans. 50% of customers wanted whole beans. Obviously more people are investing in grinders or bean to cup machines. This is only a good thing as coffee tastes so much better freshly ground.
Finally a word of thanks to Shirley and Alan from Holkham Hall, who along with Charlie organised this wonderful event. You all did a fantastic job.
